Purit a Baroque - Bach Meets Cape Breton

Recorded at the CBC studios in Halifax in 1995, Bach Meets Cape Breton has a lot of life in it. I noticed that especially on the track ‘The Lass Blast’ which slows down and speeds up in just the right places. Within this CD there are fiddles, steel string guitars, and a harpischord dancing together in a mixture of melodies. The members of Purit a Baroque include Scott MacMillan on guitar, David Sandall on the harpischord, and David Greenburg on baroque and modern violins. This ensemble is instantly engaging and it’s no wonder that this CD won Best Classical Album at the 1997 East Coast Music Awards.

Cape Breton, Scotland, and the Baroque era are fused together in many of these tracks which makes it quite unique. The tunes continuously cross genres but never lose their natural ability to keep the listener interested.

The song I am posting is called ‘E-bee Jig’. Enjoy!

Hello and welcome to my blog! I will be using this blog to post reviews of various CDs I listen to. The main genres I will focus on are classical, jazz, and sometimes world music. Feel free to follow me on my musical adventures!
